Offering a Full Light Spectrum Adapted to the Visual Sense of Broiler Chickens

Light management has a high potential to enrich and structure the barn environment of the birds. Not only can it be used to stimulate behavioral activity, but it also has potential to reduce stress and meet the visual needs of the birds. Birds perceive their environment differently than humans, as they can see more ultraviolet and infrared light. Barns that are too bright cause stress to the animals, which can quickly lead to health problems, such as cardiovascular problems. In order for the animals to be able to orientate themselves in the barn (to find feed and water), sufficient lighting in the animal area must be ensured. With the GalliSpec® lighting from Altuma, variable, flicker-free dimming can be used to create a calming atmosphere in the barn. Moreover, more light in the area of the feed and water troughs and less light in resting and nesting areas can be set to promote natural behavior. The LED lights offer the full spectrum including UV-A light, blue, green and red wavelengths.
