BroilerNet is the first European network dedicated to strengthening the environmental sustainability and resilience of the broiler industry. Bringing together partners from 13 countries with engagement from more than 400 different actors across these countries, BroilerNet connects farmers, researchers, and industry stakeholders to identify and share innovative good practices that address key challenges in animal welfare, animal health management, and sustainability.
Through its national Broiler Innovation Networks, BroilerNet has completed its second innovation cycle, uncovering new challenges and showcasing practical solutions from across Europe. A diverse range of Good Practices have been collected, and each one is carefully described in downloadable factsheets, freely available on the Broiler Knowledge Hub (www.broilernet.eu).
Highlights from the Innovation Cycle
- Animal Welfare: Tackling issues such as welfare assessment, chick management, and reducing stress during catching. Solutions include welfare assessment apps, early feeding strategies, and improved handling practices.
- Animal Health Management: Addressing gut health, chick quality, and lameness. Good practices range from advanced cleaning and hygiene protocols to elevated platforms and bacteria control methods.
- Environmental sustainability: Confronting challenges in water use, manure management, and rearing slow growing broiler strains. Innovations include smarter water management, optimized manure spreading, agroforestry, and reducing food waste.
Each good practice is proudly shared by its developers to inspire progress and knowledge exchange across the sector.
