Many types of infections can challenge modern broiler farms. Avian Influenza virus is a major threat for most European farms. Prompting farmers to an early communication to the Vets practice can greatly reduce the spread of Avian Influenza and many other transmissible viruses or bacteria. During training or communication, farmers are systematically encouraged to communicate immediately upon possible symptoms that might indicate upcoming flock illness. This way Vets, and some time Official Authorities, save precious time and effort to cope with a virus that can spread fast. In case of bacterial infections, special interventions and early measures (organic acids, etc.) might prevent the use of antimicrobials, thus reducing possibility of antimicrobial resistance. This practice is easy to apply and has no significant cost. Farmers are trained to recognize some basic symptoms and communicate immediately to the Vets. Photos and videos can also be sent to the Vets so as to pre-access the urgency of the farm visit. It can be applied to every type of farm and is specifically easy for big broiler meat integrators.
