BIN Sweden

In 2022, the Swedish broiler sector consisted of 150 producers, 99 % of these are conventional producers and less than 1 % organic producer. No free-range production is conducted in the country and just a small number of producers have other types of niche-production concepts. The broiler production is very much located in the southern parts of Sweden, due to the location of the abattoirs, hatcheries, and feed mills.

Of the total meat consumption in Sweden, about 25 % consists of poultry meat. The self-sufficiency is 75 % of the consumed meat and the other quarter is imported poultry meat.

The size of the farms varies from large sites of more than 10 000 m2 to small broiler houses of 500 m2

Kronfågel is the largest poultry meat producing company in Sweden, slaughtering roughly 50 % of the total number of animals in the country. Kronfågel is part of the national company Scandi Standard. Guldfågeln is the second biggest producer of poultry meat in Sweden.

A majority of the production is part of the Swedish Poultry Meat Association (SPMA), which is a member organization that covers the whole production chain of Swedish broiler and turkey production.

Affiliated companies (members) are Kronfågel AB, Guldfågeln AB, Atria, Knäreds Kyckling AB, Bjärefågel i Torekow AB, Ingelsta Kalkon AB, Blenta AB, Adelsåsen Produktion AB, SweHatch AB, SweChick AB/Aviagen, Svenska Foder, Lantmännen, Swedish Agro and approximately 150 Swedish poultry farmers.
