Multiphase feeding and the addition of enzymes and essential amino acids are some nutritional strategies that have a very favourable impact on the environmental sustainability of the broiler sector. Since nutritional needs vary as the animal grows, adjusting the nutritional composition of the feed to meet these needs not only maximizes its growth potential but also avoids over-inclusion of nutrients that may be excreted and, therefore, not utilized by the animals. Multiphase feeding is designed to provide the necessary nutrients for each production phase. Therefore, it is more common to provide 3 or 4 feeds formulated to meet nutritional needs throughout the broiler’s life. The use of essential amino acids and enzymes allows great flexibility in feed formulation, not only regarding formulations adapted to each age and requirement of the birds but also in terms of the feedstuffs used according to their availability and price. As benefits there is a reduction in the use of soybean as a protein source, a decrease on nitrogen and phosphorus excreted (less emissions and less welfare problems), maximizes the growth potential and reduces production costs. It can be applied to the whole sector, practically to any type of farm and poultry production. It is easy to apply, especially when the broiler production is in an integrated system.
