The challenge addressed by the Good Practice (GP) is to ‘Improve water conservation and management’, a key issue in optimising the use of water resources in agriculture and animal husbandry, particularly in contexts that require prudent water management to ensure animal health and facility efficiency. In particular, the practice consists of adopting a technique that involves the laying of a resistant and waterproof nylon sheet over the existing floor, which is generally damaged or deteriorated by wear and tear.
A cement casting approximately 12 cm thick is then made on this base, creating a solid and stable surface, providing a perfect base for the application of the final coating. Once the cement is hardened, the floor is completed with a quartz coating, which helps to make it smooth, homogenous and easily washable, fundamental characteristics for ensuring hygiene and functionality in labour-intensive environments such as agricultural or livestock facilities.
