Deliverable D4.2 – Thematic Report of collecting of GP abstracts in animal health management

This report summarizes the results for the BroilerNet WP 4 “Animal health management”. The three priority challenges that were identified by the National Level BroilerNet Innovation Network (BIN) groups of each participating country were “Improving biosecurity”, “Fighting Avian Influenza”, and “Reducing antimicrobial use”. The BINs proposed in total 45 Good Practices (GP) as innovative best practice solutions to the identified challenges. Those GPs were evaluated by the Thematic Expert Network (TEN) with the use of the Good Practice Evaluation Tool (GPET). This evaluation resulted in a Top 10 of GPs for each challenge, out of which the TEN selected a Top 5 of Best Practices (BP) based on the technical quality, impact, and probability of success of a GP. For each challenge, one BP was awarded as BroilerNet Champion. The BroilerNet Champions were “Dedicating small equipment by zone and house (colour per house)” (Improving biosecurity), “Avian Influenza: Self- analyse for risk factors” (Fighting Avian Influenza), and “Water circulation central heating with renewable energy” (Reducing antimicrobial use). In addition, a literature review was conducted with regard to the three challenges, which is also briefly described in this report.
